Digital music brand Napster (Nasdaq:NAPS) and Swedish telecomms company Ericsson (Nasdaq:ERICY) announced on Monday (13 February) that SunCom Wireless, a wireless phone service provider, has agreed to offer the Napster Mobile music service to its subscribers. Napster Mobile is Ericsson's hosted music service featuring Napster's catalogue of artist images, ring tones and full-length songs. According to Napster, SunCom is the first US wireless carrier to agree to offer the Napster Mobile service. Napster Mobile's integrated software application will allow SunCom Wireless customers to search and browse the content in Napster's catalogue via their wireless handsets. In addition customers will also be able to use Napster Mobile's handset application to purchase and receive full-length songs and simultaneously a copy of the purchased content will be sent to the customer's PC, providing for more options. Ericsson will host, integrate and manage the round-the-clock-operations of the service for SunCom Wireless under a managed service agreement. The agreement is based on a risk- and revenue-share model. Pricing details and availability of service were not disclosed.
