Swedish telecomms solutions provider Ericsson (Nasdaq: ERIC) launched on Friday (9 February) its Femto Cell Solution, which it claims is the worlds smallest GSM radio base station for home coverage.
Consumers using GSM and WCDMA phones will now be able to use their mobile phones at home, with the price advantages offered by fixed-line and Internet phones, Ericsson said.
The home access point is compatible with GSM and WCDMA phones and also includes Wi-Fi and ADSL.
Femto Cells home access point is connected, plug-and-play, to any existing IP backhaul network, and the end users mobile phone will switch to the indoor radio base station automatically as he or she walks through the door.
Ericssons Femto Cell Solution will be available through selected operators, starting in mid-2007.
Ericsson is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. Its equipment is used in more than 1,000 networks in 140 countries, and 40% of the worlds mobile calls are made through Ericsson systems. The company is listed on the Nordic Exchange in Stockholm, and its shares are also traded on the London Stock Exchange and on Nasdaq.
