Reykjavik (IFN) Icelandic telecommunicatons firm Siminn has revealed that it has established more than 40 new transmitters since the start of 2006, strengthening GSM connections for its customers.
The operator has recently relocated transmitters in Bifrost in order to boost the connection there and has installed new transmitters in Akranes, improving the GSM system in West Iceland. It improved the GSM connection in Stykkisholmur and also intends to increase the number of transmitters there.
In addition Siminn has established transmitters in the capital city area and in other places such as Grafarvogur, Seljahverfi and Vallahverfi in Hafnarfjordur, to improve GSM connections. It has also improved the connection in Sudurnes, near the Leifur Eiriksson Air Terminal in Keflavik and in locations such as Blaskogabyggd, Grimsnes, Lake Thingvallavatn and Krofluvirkjun Power Station.
The company completed the build-up of GSM services in Jokuldalur this year and also worked to expand stations in rural areas where events are held, to meet the demands of temporary traffic increases.
