Kemira will invest EUR 10 Million in formic acid production in Oulu, Finland. Kemira's total production capacity will be increased by 25.000 t/a to over 100.000 t/a. The expansion will be done in the present formic acid units and involves technological improvements and energy savings. The new capacity will come on-stream step-wise by the end of 2007.
Kemira is the global leader in organic acid derivative production and marketing. In accordance with the Group's strategy Kemira advances in the value chain moving towards products with added value, says Harri Kerminen, President of Kemira's Performance Chemicals business area. With this investment in Oulu Kemira will further strengthen its position on the market and meet the market needs.
Kemira produces formic acid and also derivatives of formic, propionic, acetic and lactic acids which are used in e.g. the food and feed industries. The main markets of formic acid are leather, textile, pharmaceuticals and chemicals industries as well as agriculture. A common feature for these organic products is that their different applications are environmentally friendly solutions.
Kemira produces formic acid and its derivatives in Oulu, Finland and organic acid derivatives in Tiel, the Netherlands and in Barcelona, Spain.
