HELSINKI, FINLAND and WELLESLEY, Mass. - April 25, 2006 - SSH Communications Security Corp. (HEX:SSH1V), a world-leading provider of enterprise security solutions and end-to-end communications security, and the original developer of the Secure Shell protocol, today announced new SSH Tectia product versions that allow easy, transparent replacement of plaintext FTP (File Transfer Protocol) connections with secure file transfers to help meet the data security requirements of SOX 404, PCI Data Security Standard, and other regulations.
Being readily available in most operating systems, FTP is commonly used to implement automated file transfers, for purposes such as backing up mission-critical data, between enterprise servers in heterogeneous IT environments. However, FTP is accompanied by major security risks. It sends passwords and file content in plaintext format, exposing the data to eavesdropping and other network attacks during transmission over TCP/IP networks. New and challenging regulations, stricter auditor requirements, and the increasing number of attacks are driving enterprises to implement a secure replacement for FTP.
The new SSH Tectia client/server solution's version 5.1 introduces an FTP-SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) Conversion Module that allows easy deployment of secure file transfers without the need to modify existing scripts or applications that use FTP for automated file transfers. This new Conversion Module, deployed client-side, detects plaintext FTP connections and transparently converts FTP to SFTP according to the security policy configuration, ensuring the confidentiality, authenticity, and integrity of the transferred data.
"The costly engineering work required in the typical FTP replacement projects has been slowing down adoption and expansion of secure file transfers in many organizations," said Arto Vainio, CEO of SSH Communications Security. "With the new FTP conversion capabilities of SSH Tectia, organizations can overcome deployment challenges and easily introduce secure file transfers in large, cross-platform environments in order to help meet regulatory and auditing requirements in a timely and much less costly manner," he continued.
The key new features and benefits of the SSH Tectia client/server solution 5.1 and SSH Tectia Manager 2.2 include:
* FTP-SFTP Conversion Module to easily and cost-effectively replace plaintext file transfers in large enterprise environments (available only in the optional EFT Expansion Pack for SSH Tectia). * Support for 64-bit Windows platforms, for enhanced scalability and performance. * Centralized uninstallation of OpenSSH distributions supplied by the operating system vendors, enabling easy migration to SSH Tectia. * The distributed management architecture for SSH Tectia Manager, improving system scalability in very large environments.
Pricing and Availability SSH Tectia Client 5.1, SSH Tectia Server 5.1, SSH Tectia Connector 5.1, and SSH Tectia Manager 2.2 will be available in early May. Product evaluations, pricing, and further details can be obtained by contacting regional SSH sales staff or visiting www.ssh.com.
