Pöyry's Energy business group has been awarded an owner's engineering contract by Fernwärme Ulm GmbH, Germany, for the design and construction support of a new combined heat and power (CHP) bioenergy plant. The total value of the contract is EUR 1.5 million.
The project site is located in the city of Ulm in the state of Baden-Württemberg, about 100 km southeast of Stuttgart. The construction phase is estimated to last over two and a half years. The commissioning of the bioenergy plant is envisaged to take place in winter 2008/2009.
The steam turbine will produce up to 20 MW electricity net to the grid. In addition to electricity production, the scheme will supply Ulm's district heating with hot water equivalent to 35 MW.
