The Finnish food, feed and ingredients group Raisio Plc announced on Tuesday (17 October) that it has completed co-determination talks regarding its planned rationalisation programme.

In Finland the measures include reducing the number of personnel within the Food division and group services by 31 full-time employees and 10 temporary employees. In addition the margarine production will be adjusted by lay-offs representing 25 man-years. Raisio will also close its Viikki research centre and centralise its R&D operations to a new centre completed earlier this year.

The reorganisation is expected to cost EUR0.7m, but to result in annual cost savings of approximately EUR5m.

As a result of a capacity expansion at Raisio's stanol ester plant in Raisio, Finland, Raisio will also reduce production at its plant in the US. As a consequence Raisio will reduce the number of US employees by 15.

Raisio is a specialist in plant-based nutrition. The company has some 1,300 employees in six countries. Raisio's cholesterol-lowering Benecol products are sold in 20 countries. Raisio is listed on the Nordic Exchange in Helsinki.

One British pound (GBP) is worth approximately 1.48 euros (EUR).
