The Swedish space equipment supplier Saab Ericsson Space said on Friday (7 April) that it has together with Austrian Aerospace won contracts to develop and manufacture a number of on board equipment for the European satellite navigation system Galileo.

Saab Ericsson Space's share of the contracts is valued at a total of approximately EUR30m and covers integrated command and data units, navigation signal generation units, digital baseband processors for mission receivers, security unit computers, C-band mission receiver antennas, S-band command and control antennas, thermal insulation blankets, satellite transportation containers and satellite payload handling devices. Saab Ericsson Space is to supply the equipment for the first four of the Galileo projects satellites.

The orders were placed by EADS Astrium, Mier Comunicaciones and Alcatel Alenia Space.

One euro (EUR) is worth approximately 0.69 British pounds (GBP).
