The Finnish Forest Industries Federation said on Monday (7 August) that total production in Finland's paper and paperboard production reached 7 million tons in January-June 2006, setting a new record.

The growth in production was partly due to mills' continued operation during the Midsummer holiday, which was possible due to the collective agreement that was concluded a year ago.

Over 40% of paper and paperboard capacity was in use at Midsummer, while almost all pulp mills were operating.

Domestic wood procurement in the forest industries was hampered by short supply in the early part of the year, the Federation said.
