Finnish-based international paper group Myllykoski Corporation said on Monday (30 October) that it plans to close its mill in Dachau in Germany as part of its on-going restructuring process.

The mill, which has an annual capacity of 230,000 tonnes of coated publication paper, will be closed by 2007.

"The closure of the Dachau mill will have a strengthening effect on the European coated publication paper (LWC) demand and supply ratio. Dachau's capacity corresponds to some 20% of Myllykoski's European LWC capacity," commented Sverre Norrgard, President and CEO of Myllykoski.

Myllykoski has also decided to change the location of a planned new uncoated publication paper plant from the Czech Republic to its mill in Plattling in Germany. The main reason for the relocation is changes in the energy market, but the relocation will also enable Myllykoski to offer continued employment to personnel from Dachau.

Myllykoski is a family-owned paper group with manufacturing in Finland, Germany, Switzerland and the US. Its nine paper mills have a total annual capacity of 2.8m tonnes. Myllykoski reported net sales of EUR1.45bn in 2005.

One British pound (GBP) is worth approximately 1.48 euros (EUR).
