New Vaisala product for oxygen measurements
This spring Vaisala will introduce a new product for oxygen concentration measurements in industrial processes. The measurement device is based on a new type of optical sensor technology. It has been specially designed for challenging industrial measurements and will also work reliably under tough conditions. The new technology will pave the way for Vaisala to enter the global oxygen measurement markets.
"Vaisala is known for its humidity, dewpoint and carbon dioxide measurement devices for challenging industrial applications. The oxygen sensor to be launched will be an excellent supplement to the Vaisala product range. Oxygen measurement is one of the most extensive and interesting areas in the field of gas concentration measurement. We are focusing on a market segment worth some EUR 50 million and intend to win a significant part of it. We developed an entirely new type of sensor solution for this product that is not available on the market at the moment. The current laser-based oxygen analyzers are relatively expensive pieces of equipment designed for special applications, whereas with our product this high-performance technology will be available for the first time as a compact, yet high-performance, industrial sensor that is easy to install," says Vaisala CEO Pekka Ketonen.
Vaisala's new oxygen measurement device is based on a laser light inside a measurement probe that can be installed in the process. The stainless steel measurement probe can withstand tough conditions, which means that process measurements can be taken without any need for cumbersome and time-consuming gas sampling. Its application areas include fermentation and biotechnical processes, composting and the monitoring of inert blanketing gases.
