Pöyry's Energy business group has been awarded an engineering and site supervision services assignment by Propower GmbH, a company of Progroup AG (Prowell Group). The services are for a combined heat and power facility to be built at Burg, Germany. The value of the assignment is EUR 6.2 million.
The project encompasses owner's engineering services and site supervision for the implementation of a new power plant to serve the paper mill of Propapier GmbH, also a subsidiary of Progroup. Comprising several units using different fuels, the power plant will supply both the current PM1 and a new paper machine. Propapier plans to supplement PM1 with a 650 000 t/a containerboard line based on 100 per cent recycled fibre.
The core unit of the power supply is a 150 MW refuse-derived fuel (RDF) circulated fluidised bed (CFB) boiler. RDF is produced by extracting the high calorific fraction of solid household and industrial waste. When completed in 2009, the RDF fuelled CFB boiler will be one of the biggest in Germany.
Pöyry is a global consulting and engineering firm focusing on the energy, forest industry and infrastructure & environment sectors. Pöyry's annual net sales amount to about EUR 600 million and it employs 6000 experts.
