Pöyry's Energy business group has been awarded a technical advisory services contract in a coal-fired power plant project in Russia. The end client is the power generation company OGK-3. Pöyry will provide its services to JSC Sibcotes, an engineering company based in Novosibirsk belonging to the E4 group, who have been appointed general designer in the project. The value of the assignment is about EUR 2 million. Pöyry's assignment includes technical advisory services, conceptual engineering and construction supervision services for a new 2x225 MW coal-fired power plant to be built at the existing power plant site Cherepetskaya GRES in Suvorov city, Tula region. The plant's design concept will be based on environmentally friendly circulating fluidized boiler technology, and the project will be the first large-scale plant using this technology in Russia. The plant is planned to start operations in 2010. It is expected that there will be many new coal-fired power plant projects using this kind of advanced boiler technology in the future. Pöyry has been active in the Russian energy market since the beginning of 2006 and has provided consulting-type services to several Russian clients. This new project, which is the first major assignment in the country, is in line with Pöyry's intent to become a major local energy engineering consultant in the Russian Federation.
