Swedish truck and bus manufacturer Scania said on Monday (15 January) that vehicle components maker SwePart Transmission AB has agreed to take over the existing production at the Scania plant in Sibbhult in Sweden.
SwePart Transmission, part of Hexagon Group, will take over the manufacturing of some components for Scanias gearboxes and will initially employ some 50 people.
The agreement with SwePart Transmission is part of Scanias attempts to secure replacement jobs in Sibbhult following its decision to concentrate its European axles and gearboxes production to Sodertalje in Sweden.
In its own comment on the deal Hexagon Group revealed that it will invest SEK35m in the modernisation of the plant.
Scania, headquartered in Sodertalje, manufactures trucks, buses and engines. It has 30,000 employees in some 100 countries and reported revenues of SEK63.3bn in 2005. Scania is listed on the Nordic Exchange in Stockholm.
One British pound (GBP) is worth approximately 13.38 Swedish kronor (SEK).
