The Finnish power plants and ship power solutions provider Wartsila Corporation said on Monday (16 October) that it is close to finalising a large power plant contract with AzerNerji, the national energy company of Azerbaijan.
The contract, expected to be finalised within October, covers the delivery of 18 Wartsila 50DF generating sets for a 300 MW multi-fuel power plant to be located south of Baku.
No financial details have yet been disclosed.
In 2005 Wartsila won a EUR160m contract for five power plants totalling 450MW in Azerbaijan. Two of the plants have already begun commercial operations and the remaining three are scheduled to be commissioned before the end of the year.
Wartsila provides lifecycle power solutions for the marine and energy markets. The company has some 12,000 employees and reported annual sales of EUR2.64bn in 2005. AzerNerji. Wartsila's shares are traded on the Nordic Exchange (Helsinki Stock Exchange).
One British pound (GBP) is worth approximately 1.48 euros (EUR).
